A recent trend in newly built homes, this architectural innovation is known as a "tray ceiling." It provides greater height with the dramatic formation of an "upside down" tray shape. The client had painted the walls of this master bedroom suite a warm pumpkin color, but was left a bit stumped as to what to do with the ceiling.

This "before" photo shows an area in the lower part of the ceiling over an alcove of doors leading to the closets, bathroom and sitting room. This extension of the rectangle presented a little extra design consideration.

The angles of the "tray" provided an excellent opportunity for Mingari to design a master bedroom suite fit for royalty! A brilliant metalic gold finish was given to the uppermost rectangle, while rich antiqued red and warm golden colors were given to the lower areas.

The layout and color scheme was carefully designed and planned to complement the architectural lines, furnishings and fabrics of the room.

Faux wood inlay borders were designed to clarify and define the architectural layout of the ceiling.

The borders were extended across the ceiling above the alcove in order to complete the rectangular shape of the "tray."

The angled ceilings are graced by turn-of-the-century ornamental vignettes.

To provide a dignified first introduction to the room, the longer legs of the rectangle were given spectacular ornamentation.

All of the colors now unite in creating an elegant yet also warm and cozy atmosphere for this spacious master bedroom suite.
